Virtual Meeting Leadership Quick Tip #2: Breakout Room Smooth Operator

Want to become a smooth operator of Zoom breakout rooms?

Start with checking out this Zoom video to get the basics. However, the fastest path to mastery is to experience the features first hand. I suggest getting 5 people together for 45 minutes, taking 5-9 minutes each while narrating out loud what you’re learning (short cut: log in with a couple of mobile devices). Often the first person will be the slowest as everyone feels through what’s happening, and by the time the final person is up, there is a lot of help in the room to troubleshoot. Each person should:

• Explore the “options” setting in breakout room function. Note and test the each option.
• Understand the difference between Manual and Automatic setting.
• Understanding how to move people between rooms.
• How to move people automatically to rooms without a pop up “consent” button?
• Understand what a facilitator should say to prepare users for breakout room experience?
